Helen was almost unnoticeable to passing motorists in 1969. However, in order to entice visitors to stop and stay for a while, the civic leaders decided to take drastic measures. One of the main reasons for their success is the excellent food.

Restaurant in Helen GA-

Bodensee Restaurant:

Bodensee Restaurant is a family-owned restaurant that has been serving traditional German cuisine in Helen for over 25 years. The restaurant is situated in the heart of downtown Helen and has a cozy and intimate atmosphere.

The menu features a variety of authentic German dishes, such as Wiener Schnitzel, Sauerbraten, and Rouladen. The restaurant also has an extensive selection of German beers and wines, as well as homemade desserts, including the famous Black Forest cake.

The restaurant’s menu includes a variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available.

Some of the standout dishes include the jagerschnitzel, spaetzle, and Black Forest cake. The service is excellent, and the staff is friendly and attentive.

Chef Aurel Prodan and his wife Doina started their marriage in Romania, where they worked as servers and chefs in a local restaurant before moving to Bavaria, Germany, in 1981.

He perfected his ability to prepare traditional German food there, and they both learned how to host guests without hurry in Europe.

Chef Aurel rose to fame as a Master Chef, and 25 years ago, they brought their skills and personalities to Helen, Georgia.

Doina spent the first few years of their time in Helen going to nearby restaurants to observe, “stay undercover,” and figure out how to make their own restaurant unique and authentic.

She maintains, “We are not flipping the script.” People are served by us. It is acceptable for me if they stay for four hours.

She instructs her servers to wait until the last diner at the table has set down their utensils before removing any dishes. After that, they simultaneously remove each plate from the table.

They’ve been in business for seven years and have a large number of satisfied customers.

Doina says with sincerity, “I’m married to both the restaurant and my husband.” They clearly put in a lot of time and effort to make Bodensee a success.

The Prodans’ daughter is in charge of most of the baking and front work at Bodensee, while their son-in-law is in charge of the kitchen.

Also, the name comes from Lake Constance on the Rhine, one of their favorite places in Bavaria. Constance is referred to in German as Bodensee.

Everything is made in-house by Chef Prodan using spices that arrive from Germany once or twice a month. For instance, the sauerbraten needs to be marinated for four to five days, and Doina grows many of the herbs herself.

She is willing to share her wisdom: Consume the juice of sauerkraut. You won’t catch another cold! and states that Bodensee’s only dress code is: Avoid being naked. Put on some footwear and a hat for your head!

She serves wonderful food and is a delightful hostess for all of her guests. The spaetzle, German potato salad, and smoked pork chop are all favorites of mine. Make room in your plate for a warm apple strudel. Among Helen’s restaurants, this wonderful establishment is truly a treasure!

When I ask people where to eat in Alpine Helen, most of them immediately think of Hofer’s Bakery and Cafe, which is fair. Go here if you can’t eat anywhere else!

The location of this family-friendly lunch spot could not have been better. The German bakery, the casual and light atmosphere, the excellent service, and the impeccable food were all highlights. The daily breads that are baked in their stone hearth oven will delight you!

We adore the large pretzels that come from the bakery. Include the apfelkuechle, a traditional German pastry made with apple slices dipped in batter, fried, and then topped with cinnamon and sugar, on your breakfast menu.

I can’t wait to eat outside on the deck the next time. Vinyl tablecloths and umbrellas at each of the outside tables helped maintain the comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere.

Pub on the riverfront with lots of beers and American and German food and outdoor seating. They are best known for their prompt service, courteous wait staff, and delicious food.

The outdoor area is covered by large umbrellas, so you can eat there even in rainy or hot weather. Sadly, the interior lacks the same German theme as some of the other locations in town.

With your choice of dressing, the Garden Salad is an Arcadian mix of croutons, cucumber, tomatoes, olives, and pepperoncininis.

Grilled buffalo, chicken, fried cauliflower, grilled salmon, or fried shrimp are all options. The flavor is distinctive and energizing.

Tavern of the Trolls: Meat Plate For the main course, I recommend the German Triple Platter, which includes a grilled bratwurst, knockwurst, and fried or grilled pork cutlet accompanied by rye bread, sauerkraut, red cabbage, and German mashed potatoes.

There are numerous hot sandwiches, burgers, cold sandwiches, sides, and a menu for kids.

Enjoy Oktoberfest in Hellen and a wide range of other events throughout the year while you finish off your meal with a handcrafted German beer.

The restaurant’s menu includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas, as well as a selection of beers, wines, and cocktails. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, with friendly service and live music on the weekends.

Cozy, upbeat bar with American-inspired food, sports on TV, and live entertainment on weekends. The environment is ideal for socializing with friends.

The pizza, Pittsburgh salad, and nachos, as well as the creative menu items like chicken and waffles and chicken and waffles, are all executed well. I think the Georgia peach chicken sandwich is the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever eaten.

Crispy breading, succulently moist chicken, and huge. The perfect topping was the beach barbecue sauce.

Although Bigg Daddy’s is not a German restaurant like the more popular tourist spots in Helen, it is a great option for people who want to eat where the locals go.

Mully’s Nacoochee Grill :

Mully’s Nacoochee Grill is a popular restaurant that offers a fusion of American and Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant’s menu features dishes such as lamb chops, shrimp and grits, and grilled octopus, as well as a variety of salads, sandwiches, and burgers.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with wooden beams, brick walls, and cozy lighting.

At the restaurant that Mully opened when he was 60, he clearly enjoys mingling with both long-time friends and new customers as he moves among the tables.

Greg Ash is his real name, but his nickname came from his love of golf and his propensity to frequently ask for a mulligan.

He is familiar with Helen, Georgia, having previously served on its town council and as its mayor. He wants his diners to have a pleasant time while enjoying a delicious dinner or weekend brunch.

Many of the dishes are prepared on a wood-fired grill by Welsh-born chef Fern Frechette, while others require special preparation. I ordered cheese grits and grilled trout with collard greens.

The grits are ground nearby at Nora Mills Granary, and the trout for Mully’s come from North Carolina. White cheddar cheese, chicken stock, and cream are added by Chef Frechette to the grits to make them even more delicious.

Baby back ribs and shrimp and grits follow closely behind Trout as Mully’s most popular menu item. Desserts like cheesecake, bread pudding, and fried Oreos will make you swoon. Every calorie in the blackberry bread pudding I tried was well spent.

Clyde’s Table and Tavern:

Ward Gann, the restaurant’s proprietor, describes it as “a dream that came true that I wasn’t expecting.” After 24 years at Farm Bureau, he realized that Cleveland’s downtown needed good food. Gann has been open for nine months and says that the support from the community has been great. He appears to be dealing with a blow.

The restaurant’s name and decor were inspired by Gann’s English setter, and Gann claims that one third of the recipes are his own. In 1948, the building served as a dime store, and the brick walls and wood floors still exist.

The interior features padded metal chairs, wood tables, and wall art with a hunting theme. Many of the items on the menu are prepared using a smoker called an “outback.” The smoked meats are without a doubt the main attraction.

Nevertheless, the exceptional homemade pecan pie, the five-alert wedge salad, the deviled eggs with slaw, the avocado fries with remoulade sauce, and the meal itself are all exceptional in their own right.

The “Tie Me to the Porch Puppy Punch” and a selection of Pup Tinis and Dog-Aritas on the drink menu also reflect the canine theme.

The lunch menu includes four versions of mac and cheese, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and quesadillas. Dinner includes steaks and a variety of seafood dishes.

A variety of Eggs Benedict, sweet potato pancakes, stuffed French toast, and chicken and waffles are available for Sunday brunch. Your service is excellent.

At the moment, Clyde’s has 40 seats inside and 30 on the deck outside. The deck’s expansion is already in the works. Clyde’s is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

This indicates that the smoke from the smoker is constantly luring hungry patrons to try this new establishment. a great pick among Helen’s restaurants.

Fred’s Peanuts:

Stop in for the peanuts, yet set aside some margin to check out Fred’s Peanuts and have a good time. Say hello to the porch’s “old folks” dolls. Take home a bag of the Cajun-flavored boiled peanuts if you haven’t tried them before! It is on the road heading toward Unicoi, not Downtown Helen.

Chattahoochee Cheese Market:

You’ll pass Chattahoochee Cheese Market on your way to Unicoi or Anna Ruby; make sure to stop by! They have a wide selection of wines, cheeses, meats, baked goods, and other items. Basically, it was heaven!

We chose the meat and cheese option, which is also available as a cheese board. We ordered the large, which also included nuts, chutney, cranberries, and fruits.

The waitress was extremely helpful and attentive, and she knows her cheeses and meats well. She asked us about what we liked and didn’t like on our plate to make sure it was perfect. It was, too!

Scoop de Scoop Ice Cream:

After playing mini golf next door, Scoop de Scoop Ice Cream is a great option for an ice cream treat with the kids (you don’t have to play to indulge). It was fun that the inside was set up like an old soda shop.

The kids had scrumptious scoops of my peanut butter shake, which was fantastic. While the soda shop’s decor is nice for a rainy day, the patio offers better weather.

Hansel & Gretel Candy Kitchen:

Candy Making for Dummies was literally written by the owners of the Hansel & Gretel Candy Shop.

Peanut brittle, chocolate-covered cherries, nut clusters, and more than 100 different candies are all produced in the 5,000 square feet of production space. Take a sample home with you.

Conclusion:

In summary, Helen, GA has a wide variety of dining options to choose from, ranging from traditional Southern cuisine to authentic German and Thai dishes. No matter what your taste preferences are, you are sure to find a restaurant that will satisfy your cravings in Helen.
