Nevertheless, the French group thinks that when great sand and avalanches occur naturally, all of the tumbling sand grains descend the great sand dunes at the time, colliding with each other and rolling over their neighbors in a continuous stream of collisions. They consider this to be the mechanism via which a sand avalanche occurs.

The sand avalanche could be traced back to this particular factor. To get the same effect with larger sand or sand grains, longer tumbling is required than with smaller sand grains.
